Kylian Mbappé got off the mark in La Liga last weekend. It might have took the Frenchman longer than anticipated but he repaid Carlo Ancelotti for his patience by scoring not one, but two goals against Real Betis.
It goes without saying that Mbappé is one of the best players in the world. This is exactly the reason why Real Madrid were so excited for him to arrive.
On his Real Madrid debut, Mbappé scored a goal in the UEFA Super Cup. However, it took him a while to find his goal-scoring groove in La Liga. Now he has opened the flood gates, Real Madrid fans hope that it will start raining goals from now on in the Spanish capital.
Former Barcelona player nonsensically dubs Kylian Mbappé “average”
However, despite Kylian Mbappé's recent brace, a former Barcelona player is not yet completely sold by his countryman.
According to RMC Sport, former Barcelona player Christophe Dugarry is not yet convinced by Kylian Mbappé. In fact, he has even labelled Mbappé as "insufficient" and "average".
In his own words (translated via Goal), Dugarry said: "Mbappe, despite significant statistics and goals, has been average and insufficient in the game for a very long time. For several months, whether in the French team, with Paris Saint-Germain or currently in Madrid."
So that context is not misconstrued, Dugarry is talking about Kylian Mbappé's overall play being average and insufficient. Essentially, Dugarry believes that Mbappé has work to do before he is the complete package.
Dugarry continued: "He needs to improve in his role as an attacker, in duels, in the physical challenge when you play in this position, in his heading game and his technical quality. He makes less and less of a difference and needs to question himself. He will have to improve in the game."
It is true that there are elements of Kylian Mbappé's overall play which could be honed. In fact, this could be said about every player in the world currently. Since Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have aged, there isn't a perfect player out there.
It is much better for Kylian Mbappé to make his current strengths stronger, rather than working to become a "perfect player". Indeed, he is close to being the perfect player FOR Carlo Ancelotti, which is the most important factor at play here.
It goes without saying that calling Kylian Mbappé "average" is nonsensical. Hopefully, it is a translation error. After all, Kylian Mbappé is far from average, otherwise he would not be in contention for the Ballon d'Or.
