The Real Madrid managerial situation is an interesting one. For a long time, Carlo Ancelotti was expected to depart at the end of this season. But considering how well the club have been doing, especially under difficult circumstances, it might be a mistake to not try and extend the Italian manager's contract. He does not get enough credit for the spectacular job he has done with a squad lacking in depth and an ever-extending injury list.

Real Madrid have not had much stability in the managerial hot seat over the years. If Ancelotti manages to finish this campaign in the job, he will become the first manager since Jose Mourinho to spend three straight seasons as the club's manager.

Julen Lopetegui is someone who had one of the shortest runs as Real Madrid manager. He got the job in the summer of 2018 and was shown the exit door by the end of October that same year.

Lopetegui has rebuilt his managerial reputation since then though. He had a solid three-plus year run at Sevilla and did a very good job at Wolves as well under challenging circumstances. And now, he is being linked with another Premier League club.

As reported by Football Insider, Lopetegui is a top contender to succeed David Moyes as the next manager of West Ham United. The Spaniard is eager to return to Premier League management after leaving Wolves.

Of course, Moyes has done a very good job as West Ham United manager. The club even won the UEFA Europa Conference League last season. But despite that, the Scottish manager's long-term future remains in doubt.

A club like West Ham United would be a step in the right direction for Lopetegui. They have the potential to compete for Top 6 in the Premier League consistently.
