The long-running Kylian Mbappe transfer saga seems closer to an end than it has ever done before. The Frenchman's current contract with Paris Saint-Germain runs out in the summer and with every passing day, it feels more unlikely that he would sign an extension with the Ligue 1 champions, who have struggled to mount a serious Champions League challenge. Will the long-awaited move to Real Madrid finally materialise though?

Real Madrid have been linked with an interest in Mbappe since his time at AS Monaco. But it has not materialised so far.

It had looked destined to happen in 2022 when Mbappe was in a similar situation with regard to his contract. Back then, the Frenchman chose to sign an extension with PSG. It was not a long-term one though, which suggested that he wanted to keep his options open.

This time, the story could be different. As reported by Sportbild (via Mundo Deportivo), Mbappe wants to play for Real Madrid starting next season.

It remains to be seen whether Mbappe and Real Madrid can end up reaching an agreement. But the interest certainly seems to be there to make something happen this time around.

Real Madrid might not be putting all their eggs in the Mbappe basket this time around though. Alongside the Frenchman, they have been continuously linked with Erling Haaland of Manchester City as well. Victor Osimhen of Napoli is believed to be a potential transfer target for Los Blancos too.

On the other hand, some interesting rumours have emerged that Real Madrid could choose to transfer away Vinicius Junior, if Mbappe did end up joining the club next summer. Most fans would be hoping that those are off the mark and the Brazilian remains at Santiago Bernabeu for the foreseeable future.
