Kylian Mbappe has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for years now. On numerous occasions, it has seemed not only possible but also probable. Yet, nothing has materialised so far. With his current deal with Paris Saint-Germain set to run out at the end of the season, next summer is viewed as the best opportunity for the dream transfer to finally take place.

But it looks like Real Madrid are not the only contenders to sign Mbappe. They seem to have competition in what had looked like a one-horse race for so many years.

The competition seems to be coming from the Premier League. As reported by Le Parisien (via GOAL), Liverpool are the 'most credible' candidate to PSG, as Mbappe approaches the end of his current deal this summer.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Mbappe. At the moment, Real Madrid still feel like his most likely destination with Los Blancos expected to make an offer to him this month. But it looks like Liverpool are more serious contenders for his signature than first thought.

Mbappe would be viewed as a major coup for any club that end up signing him. Of course, the possibility of him extending his stay at PSG cannot be completely ruled out either.

A couple of years back, it had looked like he was set to exit as well, only for him to sign an extension. Could history repeat itself this time around?

It does feel like his career at club level has stagnated a bit in recent times with Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham remaining in the headlines a lot more often these days. So, a change of scenery could definitely help the French World Cup winner.
