Real Madrid could certainly do with another option at striker. Joselu is currently the only recognised option they have up top and the Spaniard has done a fantastic job whenever given a chance. He is only on loan from Espanyol though and there is no cover for him in case of an injury. Will the club strengthen in the January transfer window?

If recent years are anything to go by then fans should not expect Real Madrid to make significant additions in January. But that has not stopped them from being linked with a number of players.

Mauro Icardi is one of them. After a difficult spell at PSG, the Argentine striker has revitalised his career at Galatasaray.

There have been suggestions that Real Madrid have been in talks for the striker. But as reported by MARCA, the club deny that they are negotiating with Icardi's representative and have not spoken to him.

Major Icardi to Real Madrid transfer update

Thus, it seems like Real Madrid have no plans of signing Icardi despite his good form. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 17 goals and provided 6 assists in 25 appearances for Galatasaray this season.

Icardi is certainly an experienced striker who could add a lot to this Real Madrid team. But at the same time, signing him might not be the right step at this point and certainly does not fit the transfer policy that the club have followed for the past several years.

What Real Madrid need to do now is sign a striker who can fill Karim Benzema's void and lead the line for the club for years to come. Icardi might be able to make an impact in the short-term but he quite certainly is not a long-term solution at this stage of his career.
