Manchester City and Real Madrid are set to meet in the knockout stages of the Champions League for the third straight season. It is currently tied between the two teams. Los Blancos won the tie back in the 2021/22 season while Pep Guardiola's side came out on top in the previous campaign. Both teams went on to life the trophy with the big ears after getting the better of the other.
So, it goes without saying that is a high-profile fixture. And it remains to be seen how things will play out. Last season's tie was not particularly close but Real Madrid seem a much better and more determined side this time around, while Manchester City have taken a step or two back after winning the treble.
Amidst all this, a player on the books of Manchester City has admitted that he would be open to a move to Real Madrid. But at the same time, he claims that it is his dream to play for the Citizens. It is none other than Yan Couto, currently having a fantastic season out on loan at Girona.
As reported by FootballTransfers, Couto while speaking to Catalunya Radio:
"Real Madrid want me? Well, it would be an option if they are interested… I’m not going to lie!
“I’m a Man City player, I have a contract there and it’s my dream to play for City."
Manchester City player admits he is open to joining Real Madrid
Both Manchester City and Real Madrid need a long-term solution at right-back. Kyle Walker and Dani Carvajal might still be two of the best right-backs on the planet but they are in their 30s and sooner or later, will need to be replaced.
Couto is 21 years of age and having his breakout season on loan at Girona. He is also getting chances at the international level for the Brazil national team on the back of his strong club performances.
One would think that Manchester City would not be open to the prospect of parting ways with someone like Couto at this point in time. But in the past, we have seen that the club are more than willing to let players go if someone wants a move away.
