Real Madrid and Manchester City have been involved in some epic contests in the Champions League over the years. The two met in the last 8 of the competition this season and it was their closest tie yet. Ultimately, it was Carlo Ancelotti's side who came out on top, getting the better of Pep Guardiola's team on penalties.

Now, it looks like Manchester City have their eyes on one of Real Madrid's superstars and are willing to make a blockbuster offer to the player. His future at Santiago Bernabeu is in doubt as things stand.

As reported by Defensa Central (via FourFourTwo), Manchester City are interested in signing Toni Kroos this summer. The English club would be prepared to pay him wages of £13 million per year in a short-term deal.

Kroos' current deal with Real Madrid runs out in the summer. And it is unclear whether he will extend his stay with the club. It is very possible that he could be on his way out.

Kroos has proven that he can still perform at a high level and remains a regular starter for Real Madrid. So, parting ways with the German maestro, despite him being 34 years of age, might not be a great idea.

Of course, Guardiola and Kroos have already worked together at Bayern Munich. And it is not hard to understand why there might be interest in making a reunion happen.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Kroos. One cannot ignore the fact that retirement is also a possibility for the midfielder. In fact, those rumours have been floating around for the past couple of years despite the fact that he has continued to perform at a high level and will be challenging for a record sixth Champions League title against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.
