Real Madrid and Manchester City have consistently faced each other in the Champions League knockout phases in recent years. It is not hard to understand why that has been the case either. They have been the two best teams in European football for the past several years. Often, the winner of that tie has gone on to win the competition.

It is very possible that the two might end up facing each other in Europe's top competition this season as well. But it is not just on the pitch that the two might find themselves competing in the near future.

Real Madrid saw Toni Kroos retire at the end of last season despite still being a regular member of the starting lineup. It has become evident at the start of this campaign that they miss the German maestro's presence in midfield.

As a result, do not be surprised to see the club try to sign a high-profile midfielder in the future. They have been linked with PSG's Vitinha already. But it looks like a Manchester City player is on their radar as well. Fortunately, the idea of moving to the Spanish capital seems to appeal to him too.

As reported by AS, Rodri would only leave Manchester City to come to Real Madrid. He would be very tempted to return to his hometown and be part of the great project at Santiago Bernabeu.

Rodri is one of the frontrunners to win the Ballon d'Or alongside Vinicius Junior. He won the Premier League with Manchester City and the EUROs with Spain. A year earlier, he was instrumental in Pep Guardiola's side winning a treble and scored the winner to help the English club to their first-ever Champions League title.

If Real Madrid are able to sign Rodri, it would be a major coup for them. Making a deal happen would not be easy though.
