Manchester United are a team that has struggled to get back to the top since Sir Alex Ferguson retired more than a decade ago. Now, it looks like the club are moving in a different direction and let's see how that turns out for them. And they might be about to sign a defender from Real Madrid this summer in a £34 million transfer deal.

Miguel Gutierrez is coming off a fantastic season. He helped Girona to Champions League qualification and seems to have caught the eye of top clubs around Europe in the process.

Real Madrid do have a buyback clause for Gutierrez. And it looks like they plan to take that up, although, it will ultimately lead the defender to Manchester United.

As reported by Express, according to reports in Spain, Real Madrid will promptly re-sign Gutierrez. But they have already struck a deal with Manchester United to immediately transfer him to the Premier League side for a £34 million fee.

Gutierrez has proven himself to be a very good left-back in his time at Girona. But Real Madrid appear to have other plans in that position.

Ferland Mendy enjoyed a solid campaign. The initial expectation was for him to leave Santiago Bernabeu but now, that feels unlikely to happen.

On the other hand, the club have been heavily linked with a move for Alphonso Davies as well. The Canadian international's future at Bayern Munich is up in the air and Real Madrid look like his most likely destination.

So, there might not be a role for Gutierrez at Real Madrid moving forward. But the club do appear to have an interesting plan to make a transfer profit out of his departure this summer if the reports coming out of Spain are indeed accurate.
