A few players turned their Real Madrid careers around last season. In the case of some, that may lead to an exit. Andriy Lunin, for example, was one of their best and most consistent performers in the previous campaign, as Los Blancos won a Champions League and La Liga double. But Thibaut Courtois has been number one since returning from his injury. That has led to the 25-year-old being linked with a move away this summer and there is no lack of interest in his signature.

On the other hand, for someone like Ferland Mendy, it looks like last season's performances have secured his future at Santiago Bernabeu. Not too long ago, he was widely expected to leave Real Madrid this summer.

Mendy has a history of injury problems and question marks over his game going forward. But nobody can deny that when he is fit and available, Real Madrid are a lot more difficult to defeat. One cannot overlook that some of the Frenchman's best performances have come in Champions League triumphs.

Manchester United and Arsenal are just two of the clubs who were linked with Mendy earlier in the summer. But now, his future seemingly lies in the Spanish capital.

As tweeted by Fabrizio Romano, Carlo Ancelotti was crucial to getting Mendy's new deal done as the Real Madrid manager strongly wanted him to stay. A contract until June 2027 has been verbally agreed.

Other media outlets have been reporting something similar as well. As reported by AS, Real Madrid are going to close the renewal of Mendy.

Mendy staying would certainly be the right step for Real Madrid. But the club's long-term plan seems to be signing Alphonso Davies, although they might have to wait another year to do that, with his contract at Bayern Munich set to run out next summer.
