The grass is not always greener on the other side, especially when it is Santiago Bernabeu that you are leaving. Many have found that out over the years, after departing Real Madrid. The latest to do so is Karim Benzema. The Frenchman was widely expected to sign a one-year extension with Los Blancos but ended exiting, somewhat out of the blue, to join Al-Ittihad.

After spending 14 years at Real Madrid, all of them as a key player for the first-team, it is only natural if he wanted a change of scenery. Things have not gone to plan at Al-Ittihad.

After half a season of football at Al-Ittihad, Benzema seems to be already seeking an exit. The club were expected to challenge for the title but instead find themselves sitting at 7th in the table. The Frenchman has received quite a bit of criticism as well.

Rumours have suggested that Benzema is eyeing a potential return to Europe in January. But it looks like Manchester United are not interested in a move despite being linked with him.

As reported by The Sun, Manchester United have turned down the chance to sign Benzema. They refused to even enter talks. That is due to the "exorbitant" numbers involved in bringing the player to Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the Real Madrid icon. He has been linked with Chelsea and Lyon as well. The most likely solution seems to be him leaving Al-Ittihad on loan to another Pro League club though.

Benzema is one of the greatest players in Real Madrid history but a return to Santiago Bernabeu does not appear to be on the cards. We can only wish him the best moving forward though and hope he finds a solution soon.
