Manchester United seriously interested in Real Madrid target

Real Madrid need to strengthen in a number of positions across the pitch. But if there is one area where they need reinforcements as soon as possible, it is striker. Karim Benzema left the club in the summer in order to join Al-Ittihad almost out of the blue. Most people had expected him to sign a one-year extension and remain at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid did not really replace Benzema in the summer. Instead, they signed Joselu on a season-long loan from Espanyol.

To be fair to Joselu, he has done a fantastic job this season, whenever given the chance to contribute. And most fans would be happy to see him being signed permanently to fill the role of a cover striker.

Joselu clearly is not Real Madrid's long-term number 9 though. He will turn 34 before the season comes to an end. Thus, the club need to sign someone who can lead the line for years to come and Serhou Guirassy of VfB Stuttgart is someone they have been linked with.

Guirassy has been one of the most in-form strikers in all of Europe this season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 18 goals in 14 appearances so far in this campaign.

Naturally, there is a lot of interest in his signature as well. As tweeted out by Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle United and Manchester United are seriously interested in Guirassy.

Of course, one of the biggest reasons why Real Madrid have been linked with Guirassy is because there is believed to be a €17.5 million release clause in his deal with VfB Stuttgart. Signing a player of his quality for that kind of a figure is rare in modern football and it is a surprise more clubs are not being linked with him.
