Chelsea just can't seem to find a way out at the moment. The expectation was that an experienced manager like Mauricio Pochettino would come in and steady the ship for the Blues. And there have been some positive signs, as they have done well against the top teams. But the fact of the matter is that they sit at 12th and would have been a spot lower if not for Everton's points deduction. Thus, they need to continue signing players and it looks like a Real Madrid mainstay is in their sights.
Real Madrid might not have a deep squad at the moment but that has not stopped them from putting up an impressive run of results. This is certainly a special group of players.
Fede Valverde is someone who might not be grabbing a lot of headlines. But he has been a steady presence in the middle of the park for Carlo Ancelotti's side, featuring in every match so far this season and starting all but two.
As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Pochettino wants Chelsea to sign Valverde at the earliest. But the Uruguayan international signed a long-term contract with Real Madrid back in November, which makes a transfer away from Santiago Bernabeu improbable.
Pochettino wants Chelsea to sign Real Madrid player
Valverde is someone who has been linked with a move away from Real Madrid on numerous occasions. Just last summer, clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and more were rumoured to be interested in him.
A move away from Santiago Bernabeu has not materialised though. There is really no reason for Valverde to leave the club anytime soon either.
He is starting regular for the biggest club in the world. And the way things are shaping up, this team could win a lot of silverware in the coming years.
