In recent days, Raphael Varane has emerged as a potential option for Real Madrid in January. The club need to sign a centre-back as soon as possible after David Alaba suffered a season-ending ACL injury in the match against Villarreal. Eder Militao is expected to remain sidelined for the foreseeable future as well, meaning that the only two options available to Carlo Ancelotti in that position are Antonio Rudiger and Nacho.

That is clearly not enough, especially for the kind of schedule that Real Madrid have and the trophies they are expected to be competing for. Nacho did not fill the fans with confidence either, as he got sent off in the recent match against Alaves.

Ideally, Real Madrid would sign a centre-back in January. And Varane has been linked with a blockbuster return to the club he left in the summer of 2021, as he has slipped down the pecking order at Manchester United and is not playing much at the moment.

Would Varane be open to the idea of returning to Real Madrid though? It certainly appears that he would be.

As reported by AS, Varane is willing to be transferred back this winter. He is not happy currently at Manchester United and longs for the capital of Spain. It is believed that he would be flexible with the salary. Bayern Munich also want him in January.

There would be both pros and cons when it comes to a move for Varane. On one hand, he is an experienced player who knows Real Madrid like the back of his hand and is a proven success in Spain.

But on the other hand, Varane is 30 years of age already and has been dealing with fitness issues lately. He has never found his best form since moving to Manchester United either.
