Real Madrid and Manchester City have been the two standout teams in European football over the past few years. Unsurprisingly, they have faced each other in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League on numerous occasions with the one coming out on top often going on to win the competition.
Real Madrid have been linked with a few Manchester City players in recent times. Expect the Erling Haaland rumours to crop back up in the not too distant future.
One of Haaland's teammates seems to be considering his future as well, even though he feels good at Manchester City. That player is Julian Alvarez.
Alvarez has proven himself as a winner at both club and international level. A lot of legends would not be able to match the 24-year-old's trophy cabinet. Yet, there have been occasions at Manchester City when he has found himself on the bench in the big games. And that appears to have raised some doubts in the Argentine World Cup winner's mind.
Real Madrid could get chance to sign Manchester City ace
The Argentine has openly admitted that he does not like being left out of important matches, as one would expect from a player of his quality. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Alvarez said:
"Last season, I was among players with most minutes on Man City team. But it’s true… in the end, you don’t like being left out of important matches; you want to contribute and you want to play in those matches."
Alvarez further added about his situation at Manchester City:
"At City I feel good, of course all players want to play more… but I’m happy. I haven’t stopped to think clearly about what I’m going to do. When the Olympics are over, I’ll take my time to think about what I want for myself."
In the past, Real Madrid have been linked with Alvarez on more than one occasion. Back then, it felt like his leaving Manchester City anytime soon was not a real possibility. That no longer seems to be the case. It remains to be seen what the 24-year-old decides to do.
Of course, Real Madrid are not the only club to have been linked with Alvarez in recent times. The likes of Chelsea and Arsenal could try to make something happen as well, if the Argentine did become available. And Manchester City have shown in the past that they are not opposed to their players moving to rivals.
