Real Madrid might not have much squad depth at the moment, but they certainly are one of the best teams in all of Europe. They sit atop the La Liga table and appear to be contenders for the UEFA Champions League as well, having qualified for the knockout phase by winning all six of their group stage games.

The club will need to sign some players in the future though. Injuries have clearly taken a toll on this squad and one can only hope that their form does not deep in the second half of the season, like it did the last time around, when they faced similar problems.

One area where Real Madrid could do with some reinforcements is left-back. Ferland Mendy has performed well when on the pitch but continues to struggle with fitness issues. On the other hand, Fran Garcia has not convinced since his arrival from Rayo Vallecano.

Former Real Madrid player, Miguel Gutierrez, is having a standout campaign with Girona, earning him links with clubs like Arsenal. But it looks like a return to Santiago Bernabeu could potentially be on the cards as well.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid's intention is to wait until the end of the season to meet the buyback option, set at €8 million, in Gutierrez's deal. Los Blancos will watch him very closely until the end of the campaign to assess whether he will wear the royal white jersey or not during the next season.

Gutierrez has arguably been the best left-back in La Liga this season. And while Arsenal have been linked with him heavily, the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are believed to hold an interest in the 22-year-old as well.

Now, it remains to be seen where his future lies. But it is hard to imagine that he will be a Girona player come next season.
