Real Madrid are the reigning European and Spanish champions. The scary thought for opposition teams is that they still have plenty of room for improvement and could come back even stronger next season, with the squad having another year of experience under their belt and a certain Kylian Mbappe arriving.
Central defence could be an area to keep an eye on as well. The likes of Eder Militao and David Alaba both suffered long-term injuries last season. The latter returned in the latter stages of the campaign while is uncertain when the Austrian will be back. He is set to miss the EUROs.
Also, one cannot overlook the age factor. Nacho Fernandez's future is uncertain while both Antonio Rudiger and Alaba are past 30 years of age.
As reported by ESPN Argentina (via TEAMtalk), Real Madrid are giving serious consideration to signing Cristian Romero. They have already made contact with the Argentine’s camp.
Real Madrid make contact for Tottenham Hotspur player
Romero has been a key player for Tottenham Hotspur since joining the club. His biggest successes have come on the international stage though.
Romero has won both the World Cup and the Copa America with Argentina. Now at 26 years of age, it might be time for him to take the next step in his career. Could that be a move to Real Madrid? Time shall tell.
There are several other centre-backs Real Madrid have been linked with in recent times as well. Perhaps the name on top of that list is Leny Yoro. But there are plenty of other top clubs believed to be interested in the Lille centre-back including Manchester United and Liverpool.
So, the race to sign him will not be simple and Los Blancos must have alternative plans in place. The Argentine could be an excellent backup option if a move for Yoro does not end up transpiring this summer.
