One of Real Madrid's biggest problems in recent years have been injuries. Just last season, we saw first-team regulars like Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao and David Alaba spend significant time out on the sidelines. In fact, the Austrian legend is yet to recover and the hope is that he will be back in action before the end of the year.

This season is yet to start but a few Real Madrid players have already picked up injuries. And the bad news keeps coming.

The name Joan Martinez has been in the headlines recently. Dubbed the 'next Sergio Ramos', he is believed to be on the radar of Premier League clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United.

With Real Madrid light on options in defence after the departure of Nacho, some fans had even been hoping that it would open up a window of opportunity for Martinez to be the fourth option for Carlo Ancelotti at centre-back. But unfortunately, the youngster won't be involved in action anytime soon.

As tweeted by Fabrizio Romano, Martinez has torn his ACL in training. He will be out for 6/7 months and will undergo surgery.

That is the last thing that Real Madrid needed. A player who has shown so much promise at the developmental levels is now out with a serious injury before ever getting to make his mark at the senior level.

We all know about Real Madrid's struggles when it comes to promoting their academy prospects to the senior team. Someone with Martinez's talent and potential has a genuine chance of making that jump. But then, we have said that about so many others over the years and rarely has it been proven right.

For now, the focus has to be on Martinez's recovery. We can only wish him the best of luck and hope that he recovers fully from this setback.
