Real Madrid have a promising future, given their incredible display this season which has been catapaulted by many of their star young players. However, behind the scenes it has been a work in progress and the more senior, prominent and experienced figures have played a key role in the development side of things. Long story short, Carlo Ancelotti can be proud of his entire squad.

One player who has been on both ends of the coin for Real Madrid is Lucas Vazquez. The club legend came through the youth ranks as a teenager and after being given a run-out in the first team, became an influential and prominent figure. Throughout his illustrious career, the Real Madrid academy graduate Vazquez has won four Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles.

Therefore, Vazquez has been a great player to have in the dressing room. He is able to speak from his own experience and mentor the current crop of Real Madrid players, whether they come from the youth academy or are signed from abroad.

However, the main question surrounding Lucas Vazquez is whether or not he will remain a Real Madrid player next season. After all, his contract expires in 2024 and as things stood until now, there hadn't been much in the way of discourse between Real Madrid and the player over extending his current stay.

According to an update by AS, Real Madrid plan to extend the contract of Lucas Vazquez, after he yet again proved his worth to the side in El Clasico. It is believed that Real Madrid would like to keep him on board for at least one more season, a common practice when it comes to club legends.

This season, Lucas Vazquez has made 15 starts in all competitions but a total of 32 appearances, so he came off the bench 17 times. Lucas Vazquez has scored two league goals this season from right-back, with the most important being at the weekend, where he equalised against Barcelona, setting up a mighty finish for Real Madrid who eventually won the classic.

While Vazquez does not play as many minutes as he once did, he has proven to be an excellent squad player and when he is in the rotation, he very rarely disappoints. Therefore, it is a well earned contract extension and hopefully he signs.
