Real Madrid are currently second in La Liga. While this is by no means disastrous, they are already four points behind FC Barcelona, who will certainly be their main competitors for the title this season.
In truth, Real Madrid are yet to come out of first gear. For them to still be unbeaten in the league despite not finding their proper rhythm is a frightening thought for the remainder of the season.
However, foreshadowing to one side, what is in front of Carlo Ancelotti and his players will not appease them. Coming off the back of a great season, they will not be content with second place.
So, it comes as no surprise to see one of Real Madrid's best players hyping them up.
Real Madrid forward makes superb claim to scare Barcelona fans
According to Fabrizio Romano, Rodrygo is insistent that he is still hungry to achieve at Real Madrid. Despite winning everything there is to win at club level already, Rodrygo is determined to lift all of those trophies again.
In his own words, Rodrygo said: “I want to win all the titles that I have already won several times. Real Madrid is the best club in the world and that is what motivates me, to be at the level of the best club in the world every day. That is why I get up every day to train and to be better”
This message should certainly frighten Barcelona fans. Although they sit at the top of the table under new manager Hansi Flick, the Catalan side will not be sitting comfortably.
Indeed, Real Madrid will be hot on their tails. Any slip up which Barca make (and they made many last season), Real Madrid will be there to pounce on.
While football is a team sport, it does help for individuals to be self-motivated to succeed. So, Rodrygo's comments should go down well at Real Madrid. If he selfishly wants to achieve but it benefits Real Madrid, then everybody's a winner.
Rodrygo has not started the season in the best fashion. However, the same can be said for many Real Madrid players. For context, the Brazilian has scored one goal and provided one assist in four Liga fixtures.
The first El Clasico of the season is not due to take place until the end of October. Between now and then, Real Madrid will hope for a run of good fixtures to build momentum for their most important league tie.
