Real Madrid are struggling with injury problems again this season much like they did in the previous campaign. The team has seen a number of key players head for the sidelines with long-term injuries, causing the squad to lack options in multiple different areas all over the pitch. Centre-back has to be near the top of that list.

The backline was already lacking in options due to a variety of injuries. Things went from bad to worse, as David Alaba became the third Real Madrid player to go down with an ACL injury this season.

With both Alaba and Eder Militao out injured for the foreseeable future, that leaves just two fit central defenders in the current squad, Nacho and Antonio Rudiger. Two centre-backs are clearly not enough to keep up with the tough stretches of games coming up in the second half of the season, and Real Madrid might need to strengthen in that area.

As reported by AS, there are four names that Real Madrid have on the table and that would fill the vacancy at centre-back after injuries. They are Raphael Varane, Robert Renan, Rafa Marin and Goncalo Inacio.

Real Madrid have four options to replace Alaba

Varane is no doubt a familiar name for Real Madrid fans. The Frenchman spent over a decade at Santiago Bernabeu from 2011 up until his move to Manchester United in the summer of 2021. Having seen his game time reduced recently at Old Trafford, he could be on the way out soon.

Marin is currently out on loan at Alaves and has been getting regular minutes for them this season. Could Real Madrid recall the youngster in January to strengthen their backline?

Renan is an interesting choice for Real Madrid. The Brazilian youngster has been a regular first-team player for Zenit and has one important attribute that Los Blancos are looking for, he is a left-footed centre-back.

Inacio has been linked with a number of top clubs across Europe. The 22-year-old is a standout player for Sporting CP. He is believed to have a €60 million release clause in his contract.
