Real Madrid interested in €60 million Bayern Munich centre-back
Real Madrid's need for a centre-back is no secret to anyone. The club have been struggling with injuries throughout the season and two of the most serious have come in the heart of defence. Eder Militao tore his ACL in the very first league game of the campaign. David Alaba also suffered a torn ACL recently and will be out for the foreseeable future.
That has left Real Madrid with just two options at centre-back. Antonio Rudiger has stepped up this season and is having a great campaign. Nacho did not fill fans with confidence though, picking up a red card in the most recent game against Alaves.
Aurelien Tchouameni is someone who can fill in at centre-back. It would not be ideal though, especially when you consider the magnitude of games Real Madrid might end up playing in the second half of the season, as they look to challenge for both the Champions League and La Liga.
So, most Real Madrid fans want the club to sign a centre-back this January. And the club have been linked with a number of names in recent times. One of them is currently struggling for game time at Bayern Munich.
Real Madrid interested in €60 million Bayern Munich centre-back
Some reports coming out of Spain have suggested that Matthijs de Ligt is on Real Madrid's radar. Bayern Munich could be open to parting ways with him for a transfer fee close to €60 million.
It has been a long time since De Ligt had his breakout campaign at Ajax, as they reached the Champions League semi-finals against all odds and expectations. At that time, most felt that the Dutchman was destined to be the best centre-back of his generation.
Things have not gone smoothly for De Ligt since then. His spell at Juventus did not meet expectations. And he does not appear to be a starter for Bayern Munich under the management of Thomas Tuchel.
