Real Madrid missed out on Leny Yoro this summer. He was believed to be their top target in defence and for a long time, the Frenchman seemed headed to Santiago Bernabeu. But Manchester United swooped in, almost out of the blue, and won the race for his signature. As a result, Los Blancos have been left short of options at centre-back.

It does look like they have their eyes on the Premier League when it comes to finding their next centre-back. They have been heavily linked with both Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur and William Saliba of Arsenal recently.

Also, as reported by HITC, Real Madrid have been doing their homework on Murillo. Chelsea and Liverpool also like the 22-year-old Brazilian defender.

Several sources suggested in the summer that it would take a transfer fee in the region of £60 million to £70 million to convince Nottingham Forest to part ways with the Brazilian defender. Of course, that is a steep figure for someone who has not proven himself at the top level yet or even debuted for his national team.

Real Madrid already have one Brazilian centre-back, Eder Militao, who is expected to be a central part of the club for years to come. Could they add another in the form of Murillo?

It remains to be seen how things play out in the race to sign Murillo. Real Madrid have rarely shelled out that kind of transfer fee in recent years.

Some fans might raise their eyebrows at the idea of making that level of investment in a Nottingham Forest player. But then, Liverpool did sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for a £75 million transfer fee and it would be safe to say that it turned out to be a great decision on their part.
