There are several positions across the pitch where Atletico Madrid do not have enough options. One of them is right-back. Dani Carvajal is 31 years of age and while his form has improved this season, there is no real competition for the Spaniard. Lucas Vazquez is not a genuine option in that position and Los Blancos need to make a long-term signing there soon.
Reece James of Chelsea, Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool and Yan Couto of Manchester City are all right-backs who have been linked with Real Madrid lately. But it looks like they have a player from Atletico Madrid in their sights as well.
As reported by Fichajes, Nahuel Molina has become a transfer target for Real Madrid to strengthen at right-back. On the other hand, Atletico have expressed their interest in reaching an agreement to renew the contract of the Argentine international.
Molina has been a regular starter in this Atletico Madrid side. He was also part of the Argentina national team squad that won the World Cup last year.
Real Madrid interested in signing Atletico defender
Someone like Molina could be a solid addition for Real Madrid. At 25 years of age, he already has solid experience at both club and international level.
The fact that he plays for Atletico Madrid means that he would not need time to adjust to the Spanish league or the city either. That would be an added bonus for sure.
Of course, his current deal with Atletico Madrid runs until the summer of 2027. So, Diego Simeone's side are under no immediate pressure to part ways with him and it could take a significant transfer fee for Real Madrid to get a deal done. It remains to be seen how things play out over the coming months in this saga.
