Carlo Ancelotti is finally being recognised among the greatest managers of all-time. Throughout his illustrious career, the Italian manager has coached some of the best players to ever grace the pitch and he has a superb trophy cabinet. With dreams of adding to this with a monumental Real Madrid treble this season, Ancelotti warrants being in the exclusive club.
However, Florentino Perez has made no secret of his long-term vision to replace Carlo Ancelotti. It is the nature of football, even in management, that individuals reach their peak and performance begins to decline. While Ancelotti is a long way from that, it is healthy to consider who will replace him in the future, considering he cannot remain in management forever.
Real Madrid legend would like to replace Carlo Ancelotti one day
Thankfully for Real Madrid, one of their club legends has entered management recently and has taken the world by storm. In case you hadn't guessed, I am addressing perhaps one of the best managers in the game currently, Xabi Alonso.
Xabi Alonso took charge at Bayer Leverkusen in 2022, after managing Real Sociedad B. This season, he is on the precipice of a monumentally huge unbeaten season. Needless to say, this has caught the eye of many, including Florentino Perez.
The Real Madrid president famously prioritised the appointment of Xabi Alonso in the future to replace Carlo Ancelotti. But where does the former Real Madrid player Alonso sit in this regard?
Well, the good news is that Xabi Alonso harbours ambitions of managing Real Madrid. In fact, according to an update from Abendzeitung, Xabi Alonso has made it clear he would like to manage at his three most recognised clubs from his playing career (Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich).
The only things that Xabi Alonso did not make clear are when he would like to manage at those clubs and in which order. This is understandable, though, considering the Spanish maestro has bigger fish to fry, with the unbeaten record looming on the final Bundesliga matchday.
Xabi Alonso is the dream Carlo Ancelotti successor. He has a great understanding of Spanish football, having played for Real Madrid and coached the Real Sociedad B side. Oh, it goes without saying that he was a coveted Spanish international player during his time, too. Therefore, when Carlo Ancelotti decides to call it a day, Alonso is best-placed to replicate his tenure.
Do you think Xabi Alonso should coach Real Madrid?
