Real Madrid must sign in-form striker on permanent deal

Real Madrid do not sign a lot of players these days and there is a clear lack of depth in the current squad. That being said, one cannot overlook how efficient they have been with the signings that they do make. It is the main reason behind Los Blancos' continued success domestically and in Europe, even though most mid-table Premier League clubs splash out more than them these days.

One of the smartest signings Real Madrid have made in recent times is that of Joselu. The Spanish international was signed on loan for the season from Espanyol.

What a signing it has proven to be. Many had raised their eyebrows at the idea of signing a 33-year-old striker on loan to fill the void of Karim Benzema. But the Spaniard has done his job perfectly so far.

He has come off the bench more often than he has started. He has made the most of any opportunity he has gotten though. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Joselu has scored 8 goals and provided 2 assists in 21 appearances and 1069 minutes of football.

Real Madrid are expected to sign a Galactico centre-forward next summer. Whether that turns out to be Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland or someone else, remains to be seen.

They will need a cover option up top though. And signing Joselu on a permanent basis from Espanyol might be the perfect solution.

Joselu might be 33 but he has only gotten better in recent years. Also, he has proven that he can get the job done at Santiago Bernabeu, no matter what role he is given. And on top of it all, he came through the ranks at Real Madrid Castilla. It makes all the sense in the world.
