Real Madrid will need to bring in some reinforcements in the upcoming summer transfer window. It is remarkable what they have been able to achieve this season despite the circumstances. They are almost certain to win La Liga and are favourites in the Champions League after eliminating Manchester City, even though they have had to deal with constant injuries throughout the campaign.

Real Madrid can't keep relying on this to happen one season after another though. It would be best if the squad is deeper come the 2024/25 campaign.

One area where they might need to strengthen is centre-back. That has been a major weakness for the club this season with both David Alaba and Eder Militao suffering long-term injuries.

It remains to be seen how they will perform when they return to action. Or whether the injuries end up having a long-term effect on their game. Amid all this, it looks like Los Blancos have the chance to bring back a club legend on a free transfer this summer.

As reported by El Nacional, Raphael Varane ends his contract with Manchester United at the end of this season and there is no intention, on either side, to extend the stint. The defender has offered his services to Real Madrid. He wants to return to where he was happy, and where he displayed his best football.

Varane left Real Madrid in the summer of 2021 to join Manchester United. It was considered as a major blow for Los Blancos back then but in hindsight, they have done absolutely fine without the Frenchman.

It is Varane whose career has been on a downward trajectory since leaving Real Madrid. He has failed to establish Manchester United as contenders in England, as was expected in 2021. And now, it looks like both parties are interested in parting.
