Real Madrid began their Copa del Rey defence with a 3-1 win over Arandina. Up against fourth-tier opposition, the fans must have been hoping for an easy day out. Their thoughts might have changed after a goalless first-half. There was not much to worry about though as Carlo Ancelotti's side were 2-0 up 10 minutes after the break.

If there was one catalyst behind their improved performance in the second half, it was Brahim Diaz. The Spaniard won the penalty kick, then he scored the second himself and then assisted the third.

An excellent performance for a player who for a long time did not get enough chances this season. But now that he is getting them, he is showing the fans what he is capable of.

Brahim's recent chances have come due to other starters being out injured. He has proven though, that even when everybody is fit and available, he is good enough to contribute to Ancelotti's team. Hopefully, he will remain a key part of the Italian manager's plans in the second half of the season.

Brahim's output so far has been excellent. In the summer, he was hyped as being like a 'new signing', having spent the previous three seasons on loan at AC Milan, and he is proving why that was the case.

When everybody is fit and available, it does give Ancelotti some options going forward, something that had not seemed to be the case coming into the season. Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo are the starters but the likes of Joselu and Brahim are important contributors as well. And it will be interesting to see what Arda Guler brings to the team, now that that he is finally fit following a series of injuries since his summer arrival.

Things are somewhat looking up for Real Madrid in the final third of the pitch. Their major issues seem to lie on the other end right now.
