Real Madrid have faced their fair share of injury problems in recent years and this season, it has arguably been more prominent than before. Three of their starters ended up suffering ACL injuries, which put them out of action for months. Fortunately, Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao have returned to action since then. David Alaba is yet to do so.

Alaba was a regular starter for Real Madrid at centre-back prior to his injury. Antonio Rudiger has certainly raised his game in his absence and has not let the team miss the Austrian on the pitch.

There is some bad news regarding Alaba's recovery. It looks like his return to competition has now been further delayed.

As reported by Relevo, Alaba underwent surgery again and his rehabilitation has slowed down. The player had set the goal of reaching the EURO, but it was an almost impossible dream. He will miss the competition this summer.

Alaba might end up being present in Germany this summer, although in a non-playing capacity. It is believed that the Austrian national team want him to be there with the side. It is not yet known in what capacity. Whether as a member of the technical staff or in a more testimonial role.

Of course, Alaba's place in the Real Madrid team might be in doubt upon returning. Rudiger is arguably the best centre-back in the world right now while Militao has walked straight back into the starting XI. There are rumours about a potential summer move for Leny Yoro as well.

We can only wish Alaba the best and hope that he fully recovers from this injury as soon as possible. It would be wonderful to see him playing in the Royal White jersey once again in the near future.
