According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t AS), Real Madrid have shown an interest in signing Mats Hummels as a free agent. The Borussia Dortmund legend ran out of contract after the Champions League final against Real Madrid and he is currently in talks with Bologna about replacing Riccardo Calafiori there. However, interest from Real Madrid has caused Hummels to delay those talks.

Mats Hummels has spent his entire season in the Bundesliga. The German veteran defender has had a successful career, flitting between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. He has played to an incredibly high level throughout his career, even in his final season at Dortmund. Therefore, he is still capable of playing for a gigantic club.

The rumour is that Real Madrid are eying a one-year deal for Hummels and since he is a free agent, this is a reasonably risk free transfer. He would serve as the perfect Leny Yoro transfer alternative, as the Frenchman wouldn't have been signed until 2025 anyway, even if Madrid did show more fight.

It was a shame for Mats Hummels that his final game for Borussia Dortmund, the club he holds so close to his heart, did not result in silverware.
