The Real Madrid squad this season is starting to run thin in multiple areas of the pitch. A combination of veteran players departing the club, in some cases not being replaced and a number of injuries to key stars this season has caused many fans to wonder how Carlo Ancelotti will deal with the situation in the later stretches of the season.

One area of the squad that is in particular need of reinforcements is the forward line. With Vinicius Jr and Arda Guler both sidelined with injuries, the only fit forwards in the squad are Rodrygo, Joselu and Brahim Diaz. Not nearly enough depth up front by any stretch of the imagination.

However, injuries are not the only issue that has created problems this season. With the departure of long-term striker Karim Benzema in the summer, many wondered where the goals would come from. The club signed Joselu on loan from Espanyol in the summer. The Spaniard has done very well but more help is needed.

With the lack of depth in the squad starting to worry many, there have been rumours of Real Madrid bringing in reinforcements in January. Could a former PSG and Inter Milan striker find himself at Santiago Bernabeu next month?

Real Madrid reportedly set to sign Icardi next month

As tweeted by Radio MARCA, in Turkey they assume that Mauro Icardi will sign for Real Madrid this winter. He would arrive to compete for a position up front with Joselu.

Icardi is someone who has been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid on many occasions in the past. The Argentine has been on top form for Galatasaray this season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 17 goals and provided 6 assists in 25 appearances in the ongoing campaign.

At 30 years of age, Icardi is clearly not going to be Real Madrid's main striker for the foreseeable future. However, the Argentine would be a great short-term fix to the issues up top in Ancelotti's squad.
