Real Madrid have had a fantastic season so far. The La Liga title is pretty much in the bag and they are in a good spot in the Champions League as well, although Bayern Munich are a tough test for any team. And the most impressive thing about this campaign has been how well the side have dealt with every obstacle along the way, not allowing any of them to derail things.

Key players have been out injured for long spells, especially in the backline. But that has not had an effect on the results. On the contrary, Real Madrid have been much more solid when compared to last season.

One such player, who has missed the majority of the season, is Thibaut Courtois. But the Belgian goalkeeper has returned to fitness ahead of schedule and is already back in the matchday squad.

Yet, he won't feature at the upcoming EUROs. As reported by Reuters, Domenico Tedesco told German magazine Kicker that Courtois will not be part of the squad. The Belgian national team coach said:

"We are focusing on the boys who are fit."

Courtois has been the Belgian national team number one for a long time. Unfortunately, their Golden Generation has not been able to deliver the success that was expected of them.

A World Cup semi-final appearance is the best they have to show from an era in which their team was filled with absolute global superstars. And most believe that their opportunity has now passed. Eden Hazard has retired, the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Courtois are in the last years of their primes and even Romelu Lukaku is not the striker that he was a few years back before returning to Chelsea.

Of course, the rest over the summer for Courtois is good news for Real Madrid. It has been a long road to recovery for him. Now, it is about rediscovering his rhythm and getting back to being the best goalkeeper in the world.
