Real Madrid do not have the deepest of squads. But they have been very successful this season despite that. Exceeding all expectations, they might be the best team in all of Europe right now. One of the key reasons behind that is because the players currently at the club have stepped up to the plate and delivered.
Perhaps no player in Europe has stepped up to the plate more than Antonio Rudiger this season. The German centre-back did not have a great debut campaign at Santiago Bernabeu but has looked like a player transformed this time around.
Many believe that he has been the best centre-back in all of Europe this season. And this has led to speculation about a potential contract renewal, or perhaps even a move away from Real Madrid.
Anfield might be a possible destination. As reported by El Nacional, Rudiger has asked to listen to Liverpool's offer.
Real Madrid superstar reportedly ready to listen to Liverpool's offer
If this is indeed accurate then it could be a worry for Real Madrid for sure. In the absence of Eder Militao, Rudiger has emerged as a rock at the back for Carlo Ancelotti's side.
Of course, engineering a move away from Real Madrid would be very complicated. On one hand, his current deal is believed to run until the summer of 2026.
On the other hand, Rudiger is 30 years of age and will turn 31 in March. At this point, one would not expect a club to shell out a significant transfer fee to sign him, despite his world-class form in the ongoing season. But then again, Manchester United did sign Casemiro for a reported £60 million transfer fee.
So, all things considered, do not expect to see Rudiger in a Liverpool jersey anytime in the near future. Never say never in football though.
