Real Madrid transfer target has “wide grin” addressing Liverpool future
By Kian Long
As things stand, Real Madrid do not need to strengthen any more before the 2024 summer transfer window comes to an end. They didn't have the best of start to La Liga, dropping points against Real Mallorca. However, Carlo Ancelotti will be hard at work this week, ensuring that the same mistakes do not occur in the following match.
Real Madrid have strengthened well this summer, bringing in Kylian Mbappe and Endrick. That said, as a club who is one of the most organised and forward-thinking in the world, Real Madrid are proud but not satisfied. So much so, they still have an eye on the future and their biggest transfer target for the 2025 summer transfer has already been noted.
Real Madrid transfer target has “wide grin” addressing Liverpool future
According to Liverpool Echo, Trent Alexander-Arnold has dropped another subtle and implicit hint about his future at Liverpool, courtesy of his facial expressions. They note that when attending a post-match press conference, he had a "wide grin" on his face. He even cracked a joke, claiming "I don't know what you'd possibly want to speak to me about!"
Trent Alexander-Arnold is a funny character, with a great personality. Since Liverpool is a family-orientated club, it wouldn't strike anyone as a surprise if Trent has a good relationship with the journalists he made the joke to. This is worth mentioning, alongside the fact that he is probably sick of talking about his Liverpool contract, likely what inspired the joke.
That said, it is worth mentioning that Trent's time at Liverpool is far from over. Beyond his current deal, Liverpool are actively trying to extend it. Therefore, Real Madrid have cooled their interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold, at least until his contract situation is resolved.
Regardless, Trent will in no doubt be aware of the interest from Real Madrid. While he would like to downplay those rumours (and understandably, given his first win under Arne Slot), more will be learned about his point of view on the interest in the coming months.
Trent currently runs out of contract at Liverpool in 2025. Assuming he is not sold in the remainder of the summer transfer window or extends his Liverpool contract, he will be free to discuss a free deal with another club in January of 2025. Without a doubt, Real Madrid will be the first to call.
Do you think Real Madrid will sign Trent Alexander-Arnold as a free agent?
