Real Madrid will soon partake in the 2024 UEFA Super Cup fixture against Atalanta. The Super Cup is an annual match played at the beginning of each European season and features the winner of the previous Champions League vs the winner of the previous Europa League.

The Super Cup isn't as prestigious as the Champions League, nobody is under this false illusion. However, it does usually set up the winning club with plenty of confidence for the season ahead. So, it is worth taking seriously, which Carlo Ancelotti needs no reminding of.

Carlo Ancelotti is likely to field a strong lineup, one which could replicate his lineup for the upcoming season. However, in the buildup to the Super Cup, a key Real Madrid player was injured in training.

Real Madrid suffer big UEFA Super Cup injury blow to Eduardo Camavinga

According to a report from Miguel Angel Diaz of COPE, Eduardo Camavinga has suffered a knee injury, following a collision in training with midfield teammate Aurelien Tchouameni. The injury is not dubbed to be serious but as a precuation, Camavinga will miss the UEFA Super Cup fixture this evening.

It is never nice when a player becomes injured in training. However, Camavinga's injury is through no fault of Tchouameni's and it is a natural byproduct of Carlo Ancelotti's intense (but beneficial) training protocols. After all, intense matches require intense training.

Eduardo Camavinga is a key player for Real Madrid and particularly since Toni Kroos retired, there is a particular emphasis on the Real Madrid midfielders to step up this season and increase their output to replace Kroos. Camavinga is certainly hopeful for more game-time with the German's retirement but it won't begin this evening.

Last season, Camavinga made 46 appearances for Real Madrid across all competitions. This goes to show how highly Carlo Ancelotti thinks of him. He is particularly beneficial in high-energy games since his specialty is retrieving possession, in the same "destroyer" capacity which his international teammate N'Golo Kante made popular in recent times.

Do you anticipate a big season for Eduardo Camavinga in 2024/25?
