Real Madrid's need for another centre-back is no secret. Unfortunately, it does not look like an addition will be made in the heart of defence in the middle of the season. That will not come as a surprise to the supporters though. By this point, they have become used to the club not making additions in January.

Things could be different next summer though. Real Madrid have been linked with a number of centre-backs lately. Antonio Silva of Benfica, Goncalo Inacio and Ousmane Diomande of Sporting CP, Leny Yoro of Lille and several others seem to be on their radar.

Now, another new name has emerged in this regard. As reported by the Daily Mail (via Metro), Real Madrid have shortlisted Jarrad Branthwaite as a potential summer signing

Branthwaite currently plays for Everton. Interestingly, Carlo Ancelotti has already coached him, when he was the manager of the Toffees a few years back.

Real Madrid are not the only club to be linked with Branthwaite. The likes of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund are believed to hold an interest in the 21-year-old Everton centre-back as well.

Branthwaite has finally established himself as a regular starter for Everton this season. And his performances have been good enough to attract the attention of some of Europe's best and most high-profile clubs.

Considering the Englishman's upward trajectory in recent times, it could take a significant transfer fee to sign him from Everton. It remains to be seen if Real Madrid do make a move for him in the future or not.

Branthwaite's current deal with Everton is believed to run until the summer of 2027. Thus, the Merseyside club are under no real pressure to part ways with the centre-back anytime soon.
