At the start of the 2021/22 season, Real Madrid raised some eyebrows around Europe with their decision to bring back Carlo Ancelotti as head coach to replace the departing Zinedine Zidane. At this point many believed Ancelotti was heading towards the end of his legendary career as a manager as he was managing Everton in the Premier League at the time.
However, Ancelotti has proved all of his critics wrong and has shown that the club made the right decision in bringing him back. Since his return, Ancelotti has guided the team to ten total trophies, including two La Liga titles and two improbable Champions League victories.
With this success at Real Madrid, Ancelotti has shown that he can still manage at a top level and get results when he needs to. Ancelotti has proven that he is still a top manager, and even at 65-years-old the Italian still has plenty of gas in the tank. However, Ancelotti has made it clear that he intends to retire after his Real Madrid contract expires, however, one of the top national teams has come back with a reignited interest in the Italian legend.
Real Madrid at risk of losing Carlo Ancelotti to top national team
As being reported by Brazilian outlet Ge Globo, the Brazilian National Team and Carlo Ancelotti have resumer talks, with the aim of Ancelotti being in charge for the 2026 FIFA World Cup next year.
The Selecao has had a long standing interest in Ancelotti with the Italian always being one of the top name on their replacement list. He first held talks over the national team opening in 2023 but instead opted to sign a new contract at Real Madrid until 2026.
While Ancelotti remains the top choice of the Brazilian National Team, and with initial talks being positive, the manager remains adamant that any further talks will have to wait until after the FIFA Club World Cup this summer that Real Madrid will compete in from June to July in the United States.
