Jose Mourinho's squad overhaul at Real Madrid is well and truly underway, with the arrival of Marc Cucurella and the reported arrivals of Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, and Bernardo Silva, we will be seeing an incredibly new look Los Blancos when the 26/27 season kicks off. There has been much talk surrounding another highly anticipated signing by Real Madrid this summer, however, to the disappointment of some, this signing may not be happening in the end.

AAs being reported by theMadridZone on X, Nico Paz will not be returning to Real Madrid this summer. New manager Jose Mourinho can't promise the 21-year-old a place in the starting lineup, meaning the player will stay at Como for another season, before possibly returning for the 2027/28 season.

The Nico Paz dream has to wait another year

Nico Paz has been quite the talk of the town at Real Madrid this season following his incredible campaign with Como, leading the Italian side to the Champions League for the first time in the clubs history and took home the award for best midfielder in Serie A. Real has been keeping a close eye on his progress at Como and have been mulling over activating their €8 million buy-back option, with all signs initially pointing to yes but now it seems like it's a no.

While it may be disappointing for some to not see Nico Paz returning, when looking at the broader picture it does actually make sense. The midfield is already overloaded with players like Tchouameni, Valverde, Camavinga, Bellingham, and Guler, as well as the expected arrival of Bernardo Silva, competition for a starting spot is already high and adding a youngster like Paz who already struggled for playing time at Real Madrid back into that environment would derail all the progress he's made at Como.

And for Paz this is the best case for these early stages of his career. He is the centerpiece of Cesc Fabregas' project at Como and following their Champions League qualification and fourth place Serie A finish, staying at Como for another year to keep getting the starting minutes while making history for the Italian side is what would be best for his career at this time.

So while Nico Paz won't be returning this summer, there's always the 27/28 season where Paz will no doubt be a better player than he is now and he'll still only be 22-years-old and more experienced so waiting another year to bring the defender back could prove to be the smartest decision Jose Mourinho and the club makes this summer.
