Real Madrid star center midfielder Nico Paz was the best player in Serie A last season, leading Como to a historic Champions League qualification with untouchable technical quality, elite chance creation, and plenty of hard work on and off the ball ofefnsively and defensively.

But despite playing so well last season and Real's own midfield looking like garbage for much of the 2025/26 campaign, Paz's future is totally uncertain. It also appears that it is more away from Madrid than ever before, as Jose Mourinho appears to be more smitten with the Jorge Mendes clients and Premier League midfielders than with the potential Luka Modric heir.

Another year at Como would make the most sense for Nico Paz to remain with Cesc Fabregas, see out the Champions League campaign with his club, and then come back to Real Madrid for them to make a real decision on the Argentinian playmaker's future.

Real Madrid love making the same mistakes

Instead, it looks like Real Madrid are about to pull off what could potentially be the most disastrous option of them all. Top Italian transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting, via Madrid Xtra, that Los Blancos are planning on activating Paz's buy back clause of nine million euros.

Now, that would actually be perfectly fine news. The issue is what they plan on doing afterwards. Because according to Di Marzio, Real Madrid are not buying Nico Paz back in order to play him at their club. No, they plan on buying him back from Como and then selling him for even more money to a big club in the Premier League.

So basically, Real Madrid watched Paz tear up the Italian top flight, play better than literally any Real Madrid player did in the 2025/26 season, and then they want to sell him to a potential Champions League rival in 2026.

Gosh, it's no wonder why people are calling Florentino Perez finished and that charlatan Enrique Riquelme somehow got more than a third of the votes in the presidential election, even though the whole world saw Erling Haaland's camp and Jurgen Klopp's camp call him out in the public for being a fraud.

Real Madrid are about to let one of the best young midfielders in the world walk to a potential Champions League rival when they could just wait another year or have him themselves. And then they will spend 10 times the 9 million euros Paz would cost them on a player like Mateus Fernandes or Enzo Fernandez. Yikes.
