Jose Mourinho swiftly turned Real Madrid's attention to RB Leipzig gem Yan Diomande, who is one of the hardest working and most talented player in world football - a gem of a winger who can play on either side of the formation and dreamed of playing for Real Madrid and following in the foot steps of Cristiano Ronaldo from a young age.

Seeing him as a perfect tactical fit for him on the right wing and someone who can bring that element of speed, quality on the counter, and work rate to this team, Mourinho made sure Florentino Perez would pay whatever it takes to sign the next Galactico he promised, seeing as how Bayern Munich would not budge on selling Michael Olise this summer despite Kylian Mbappe recruiting him to the Santiago Bernabeu - and Real potentially being willing to flirt with Neymar's transfer record to sign the Ballon d'Or candidate.

While Diomande is a cheaper alternative to Olise, the 19 year old winger is coming with a very hefty price tag of his own, beyond what even Real Madrid fans initially expected. According to Mario Cortegana and Sebastian Stafford-Bloor of The Athletic, Real Madrid and RB Leipzig are closing in on a deal worth a total package of 140 million euros when including add ons, with only 5 million euros of those add ons being of the difficult to achieve variety.

Yan Diomande has to prove he is a Galactico at Real Madrid

That is a massive transfer fee for a player who really only has one proven season at the elite level. And while Yan Diomande was so good for a subpar Leipzig team that he had nearly as impressive of a 2025/26 Bundesliga season as Michael Olise himself with 20 goal contributions and 3.6 dribbles completed per game, 140 million euros would be a record fee pretty close to what the failed Eden Hazard transfer cost Real Madrid. And Hazard was one of the world's best players at the time he left Chelsea for the Bernabeu and had been one of the best for years, including at World Cups.

The thing is, Real Madrid learned something from the Hazard lesson, especially in view of how successful Vinicius Junior has been on the left wing afterwards, and that is they would rather bank on a young rising superstar whom the club believes in than anyone else.

Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid believe one thousand percent in Yan Diomande. They are closing this deal pretty quickly compared to how difficult Liverpool and PSG found it, they have stood buy him through the transfer drama, and they are willing to spend a ton of money at a time when they have generally been looking for bargains - and even Jude Bellingham was a pre arranged 100 million euro bargain with Borussia Dortmund in 2023.

That being said, a price tag of 140 million euros sends a huge message to Diomande and a challenge. He is now a Galactico, the one Florentino told the press about, and he is not just a young, rising star anymore. He is THE star on the wing across from Vinicius Junior, tasked with supporting Mourinho, Kylian Mbappe, and Trent Alexander-Arnold through hard work and quality. The expectations are going to be insane, and Diomande will have to face a lot of doubters. But if he can step up to that, then he was meant to be a Real Madrid star - and that's what the club thinks, too.
