Real Madrid are a ruthless bunch, but in their pursuit of glory and willingness to axe everyone, from Xabi Alonso to the players, Florentino Perez and the Royal Whites are entirely inglorious. For a second straight season, Real are about to go trophyless, and all the while, they are prepared to let go of a player who could help them a lot more.
Young striker Gonzalo Garcia was one of the bright breakout spots of the otherwise dark Alonso period, in which the undefeated coach was the victim of a mutiny. He has scored six goals this season despite not being anywhere near a regular player on a team that clearly lacks a pillar figure in that No. 9 position.
Garcia appears to be on the outs at Real Madrid. The latest rumors frustratingly have pinned Garcia for a permanent transfer out of the Spanish capital this coming summer transfer window. Real apparently don't think they have room for Endrick and Garcia in the same squad, even though these two young forwards have totally different profiles.
Gonzalo Garcia was supposed to be important
Per the latest report from journalist Jorge C. Picon, the club had actually told Gonzalo Garcia last summer that they would not sell him despite receiving good offers. They told him he would be important to the team. Yet after loaning out Endrick, Real Madri are still barely playing Gonzalo and now have told him that next season, he will be superfluous to them specifically because the Brazilian is coming back.
It reeks of betrayal, poor squad planning, and the potential to lose the next star Spanish striker to a club that will unlock 20 goals out of him. Garcia is not the greatest athlete, but he has that almost Joselu like ability to be in the right place at the right time. Great with his head and an effective finisher, Gonzalo has the traits in the box that, lamentably, Kylian Mbappe has still never developed as the de facto No. 9 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid have really botched Garcia this season, in the same season of his breakout that Xabi Alonso brought to them as one of the few gifts of his tortured and all too brief reign as manager. It is wild to think that Real Madrid told Garcia he was important and now are discarding him, but that is the problem with how this club operates and will continue to be a problem as they hemorrhage homegrown stars before they can really become stars.
