Real Madrid are not in total shambles right now, but with how much Florentino Perez was ranting and raving about the media and anything other than the sporting problems at a club that is now trophies without two straight seasons, it's plain and obvious that the Merengues have fallen hard since the peak of 2024 when they were coming off the Champions League and La Liga double with Kylian Mbappe in tow.

Perez's Mbappe dream is now a nightmare that has turned Real Madrid into PSG - and PSG into Real Madrid - and the president himself seems reluctant to admit that he may have made a mistake with his obsession of bringing in the Frenchman. Though, in fairness, very few around Real Madrid thought it was a bad idea; it was everyone else that warned Madrid it may not work.

But Real Madrid have other problems besides locker room controversies and Mbappe. The squad isn't very good. Barcelona have exposed that time and time again, including this past weekend when the center back duo of Antonio Rudiger and Raul Asencio embarrassed themselves while the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni got absolutely walked all over by a far more competent group of Barcelona midfielders.

It's time for new signings

According to a report from ESPN's Rodra, via the Madrid Zone, the Real Madrid board is trying to relay the message that they will act appropriately this summer transfer window. Real Madrid's board is guaranteeing signings, and while there are no concrete names they are close to signing, they are apparently working hard to make these moves.

Carlo Ancelotti told Real Madrid and president Florentino Perez for years, including when he still won the Champions League in the 2023/24 season, that Los Blancos were nowhere near good enough defensively. They never signed a center back for him in 2024 and only brought in Dean Huijsen after he was fired in 2025. Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso wanted a new midfielder after the losses of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, but he got nobody.

So now, Real Madrid have to bolster a midfield that has not progressed due to the lack of that Real Madrid level work ethic from players like Camavinga and Tchouameni, who may well be the moles everyone is worried about, while the defense is even worse and is lacking in theoretical quality with Eder Militao and Trent Alexander-Arnold the only starting quality players in that entire back four.
