Real Madrid desperately want to hire Jose Mourinho as their next manager, with President Florentino Perez fixated on the idea of bringing the Portuguese legend in the side to right a ship that has already sunk somewhere at the bottom of the Arctic circle.
Mourinho is a big name, a big personality, and a proven winner, and even though he hasn't won an elite title recently, he has achieved enough recently enough to have his reputation intact. And Flo will always remember the way he carried himself with pride and swagger while breaking La Liga records against Barcelona's greatest machine in history.
As negotiations between super agent Jorge Mendes and Real Madrid continue, the ball will soon be in Mourinho's court after the date passes when Benfica will allow Mou to make a move. And he will have an official offer on the table to accept or reject. His demands are reasonable. Mourinho wants control of the locker room without front office meddling, and he wants the areas of need addressed when he tells Real Madrid that he needs, for example, a new No. 9 or a new center back.
Real Madrid want a specific coach for Jose Mourinho
But Real Madrid have their own demand of Jose Mourinho. While Mou appears to want his own staff intact, which is an obvious request, Real Madrid reportedly want Mourinho to accept Antonio Pintus as a part of his staff, per ABC Deportes, via the Madrid Zone.
Apparently Real Madrid view Pintus remaining on the staff for strength, conditioning, and the fitness of the players as a top priority, whereas it is unclear if Mourinho will acquiesce to this request.
Pintus is a controversial figure. His training methods can be very successful, and some credit him for helping Real Madrid win the Champions League title again in 2021/22 under Carlo Ancelotti. Meanwhlie, others pin the blame on Pintus for accelerating the number of injuries suffered by Real Madrid players with his rigorous and somewhat controversial training methods.
The reality is that this is a decision for Mourinho and only Mourinho to make. He needs to be 100 percent comfortable with the staff he has, and with so much dysfunction and in fighting within the Real Madrid locker room amongst the players, the last thing he needs is disunity, egos, bickering, and people not on the same philosophical page on the coaching staff. So it is a bit weird for Real Madrid to demand Mourinho take a coach when he should have total control over his staff.
