Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has to hold off a new challenge from Enrique Riquelme for his crown as the supreme leader of Los Merengues, as the biggest club in the world have looked very vulnerable of late after two straight seasons without a trophy and more controversies behind the scenes that are making the club look weak.
Perez is already taking a huge first step in righting the ship by reuniting Jose Mourinho, who already saved this proud club from a similar plight slightly more than a decade ago. But beyond Mourinho, who is admittedly a necessary gamble in the dugout, Real Madrid are going to have to get better players in the defense and midfield.
That is already going to be a priority for the Portuguese legend, and the easiest top signing Real Madrid can make is recalling Nico Paz from Como for just nine million euros on his buy back clause, a custom for Los Merengues, after leading his Italian side to Champions League football for the first time ever.
No worries about Nico Paz
Paz's future at the Santiago Bernabeu is not fully guaranteed because of a desire to stay at Como and be the main face of the franchise for another season and enjoy Champions League football under Cesc Fabregas, but it now looks like Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid will be on board with the Argentinian coming back.
Because according to a report from Jose Felix Diaz of Diario AS, via the Madrid Zone, Real Madrid are actually set to officially announce the return of Nico Paz to the Royal White first team before Election Day begins on June 7 in the final battle between Florentino Perez and Enrique Riquelme.
Paz is a legitimate Ballon d'Or sleeper for the 2025/26 season and easily a top five candidate for all that he has done as an apparent second coming of Luka Modric. More than just an amazing goal scorer and creator, Paz is also one of the best box to box midfield players in Serie A with his ability to dribble, progress the ball, and, yes, even defend, so those who think he is just another playmaker taking minutes from Arda Guler to replace Franco Mastantuono in the squad could not be more mistake - or more disrespectful of Paz's all around qualities.
It looks like Paz to Real Madrid is indeed a foregone conclusion desptie recent doubts, Como pushing to keep him, and even Serie A champions Inter Milan getting involved.
