José Mourinho, in his first few weeks in charge at Real Madrid, has seen many new faces being added to the squad. The arrivals of Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries and Carlos Espi have been really good for him and for the club.
But also seeing rumors about the Yan Diomande deal being complete, and the club working to sign Rodri from Manchester City as soon as possible, are positive signs. Real Madrid are finally covering the needs that they had.
They're finding solutions to the problems they had last season, and that includes selling players who could clear the way for new signings, for one reason or the other.
Some of the problems were also within the squad, be it player fights, players not being good enough, inconsistencies, or a lack of leadership, and those things will gradually resolve. Some of those things will only happen if a couple of these players leave, which is also needed if the club wants to sign new players.
Raul Asencio's injury is causing a lot of difficulty for Real Madrid
One of those players could just be Raúl Asencio. However, with the new injury that Asencio has picked up, it is getting increasingly difficult for Real Madrid to sell the player, according to COPE.
Asencio had a great first season at the club when he got promoted from Castilla to the first team in 2024-25. However, last season wasn't great for the Spaniard. He fell out of order with Álvaro Arbeloa, and there were speculations around the relationship between the two at that time as well.
After that, it was also the case of the club wanting to move on from him because they knew they could get a decent amount for him, and secondly, it would pave the way for a new player to come in and get registered for the first team.
Real Madrid need to make a sale to be able to sign any more players, and that includes Rodri, if he joins, or anyone else for that matter. Real Madrid should still try to sell Asencio things, although it obviously may or may not happen,
If Real Madrid need a new player and the one of the players they have been trying to sell for any more incomings in the last few weeks is Raúl Asencio, I think it is a sign of which players they rate highly and which players they don't rate highly.
It remains to be seen what happens though, as the six-week layoff has put a huge spanner into the mix. If it is not him, then it will be someone else, but Real Madrid desperately need Rodri, so they should do what they can to bring him in, with or without Asencio's help.
