This season has been cruel to Real Madrid. It is almost the end of April, and Los Blancos have not touched any silverware yet. Will they get to touch any in the coming weeks? We do not know.
The certainty of not winning anything this season is far greater than that of winning. The Champions League is done.
The Supercopa de EspaƱa final is a distant memory I would rather not recall. All in all, the chances of winning anything major are slim.
But there are two games against the same rival that could drastically change things for Real Madrid.
The Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona
The weekend is going to be crucial for Los Blancos. They are going to lock horns with archrivals FC Barcelona for the third but not the last time this season. And the record of the previous two games only makes the third encounter more frightening.
A big final awaits the Merengues in a competition they have had little luck in. In their entire history, Los Blancos have only managed to lift the trophy on 20 occasions, while their counterparts from Catalunya have done it a mammoth 31 times, more than anybody else.
Carlo Ancelotti has already lost one final to Barcelona with a very embarrassing full-time score. And now another final can give Real Madrid their first trophy of the season, but Barcelona would not allow that so easily.
Hansi Flick's new and young side has done brilliantly so far. Almost all the players are at their individual peak and are hardly satiated before scoring at least 3 to 4 goals every game. Madrid's defense has already been subject to much jeopardy this season, and Flick would not be unaware of it.
Winning this trophy is extremely crucial for Los Blancos, but the odds do not seem to be favoring them currently.
The La Liga El Clasico
Madrid will play Barcelona for the fourth and final time this season in mid-May. However, the contest will be severe. It will play a significant role in determining this season's La Liga victor.
On matchday 35, the close gap between Barcelona and Real Madrid in the points standings will be resolved once and for all. The two clubs are now four points apart, with Madrid behind.
But, even before that, Madrid will play two La Liga games against Getafe and Celta Vigo, which they must win in order to have a chance in the Clasico.
Only one instance of surrendering points would render the Clasico meaningless, since anything other than a win in both games would almost certainly ensure Barcelona's league victory.
