Real Madrid face Racing Santander on Sunday afternoon with the hopes of continuing their winning streak in all competitions. After coming off the back of a brilliant win against Barcelona, Real Madrid have the chance to win to keep the pressure on the Catalans as they prepare for a test against a newly promoted team who haven't lost a single game at home in a very long time.
Real Madrid will be favourites going into the game, and there are some rotations expected for the clash. One thing is for sure: Real Madrid simply cannot let themselves believe that a win is written. Los Blancos will need to be at the top of their game to be able to break another home unbeaten streak, just like they did against Barcelona just a few days ago.
Real Madrid are facing a team that has been unbeaten for seven months
Obviously, the difference in quality between Barcelona and Racing Club is quite huge, but that should not and must not take anything away from the quality that this team has shown in some games this season. The club cannot treat this match as yet another game against a newly promoted team, simply because they are not yet another, just another newly promoted team.
Racing Club have shown a lot of character in some of their matches. Even though they have lost some games this season already, they haven't lost a single one at their home ground.
It is imperative that Real Madrid come away with three points, and a win is going to be even more important, considering that Jose Mourinho will make some rotations. They will be missing Fede Valverde, and Mourinho would try to give rest to at least some of the players in the starting eleven because of the difficult week they have in front of them.
They're going to be facing AEK Athens in Greece just a couple of days after this match, and will then have to worry about Valencia away from home in a couple of days' time. Real Madrid need a huge win on Sunday afternoon, and they can simply not afford to be complacent for this match.
Real Madrid have had this issue in the past where they underestimate some smaller teams and end up paying the price. Most of Real Madrid's fans are less worried about the big Champions League games and more so about teams like Racing Club, Espanyol and others who seem to be smaller than the club but are actually performing with so much heart and passion in games against the big boys. That is exactly why Real Madrid need to be at their absolute best if they want to keep the streak going.
