Real Madrid have made it clear they have two priorities in the summer transfer window, a central defender and a tempo controlling midfielder. The club has desperately been lacking in that area on the pitch ever since Toni Kroos' retirement and as a result have drawn up a long list of targets this summer with the list headlined by the likes of Rodri and Enzo Fernandez. Many believe the Chelsea midfielder has a strong chance of making the switch to the Bernabeu in the summer, however for Real Madrid, that may have just gotten more complicated than they would like.
As being reported by Mario Cortegana of The Athletic on X, Manchester City are considering a summer move for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fenranadez with the future of the midfielder at Stamford Bridge uncertain. Real Madrid have long been admierers of Enzo but at this stage it still remains unclear whether Los Blancos will make a move for him or sign someone else.
Real Madrid aren't the only horse in the Enzo Fernandez race
Real Madrid's summer transfer plans are already complicated enough following all of their top three center-back targets extending with their clubs, and now with City showing interest in one of their top midfield targets and their summer transfer plans could go from bad to worse. A player like Enzo is desperately needed so the club needs to do everything the can to sign him no matter the competition.
Enzo has long been linked with Real Madrid but talk of a potential move has picked up significantly in the last few months, and with everything going on at Chelsea right now it makes sense why. The Premier League side are in a horrendous run of form losing seven of their last eight and have failed to score in six of those seven losses. Frankly it's a dumpster fire over at Stamford Bridge and for a player like Enzo who has been consistent himself and has been one of maybe two bright spots in that team looking for a way out to save your career makes all the sense in the world.
And he is the perfect player Real Madrid are looking for. He's still young, only 25-years-old, has a wide passing range, high midfield IQ, can make plays from anywhere, and adds an intensity that along side Fede Valverde's intensity would make the Real Madrid midfield one that no player would want to mess with.
Chelsea paid €120 million for the Argentine following his 2022 FIFA World Cup victory but given the current situtation at Chelsea there's no way they could demand a fee close to that so realistically Real could land him for around €90-€100 million. Signing a player like Enzo could define the next decade at the Bernabeu, so it will be crucial that Los Blancos come out on top of Manchester City or any other team that tries to sign the midifelder this summer.
