France manager Zinedine Zidane revealed Kylian Mbappe was not feeling good after an injury forced him to leave the pitch prematurely in his team's 1-0 win over Turkey on Friday.
Mbappe scored France's only goal in the win, but as he was taking the shot that led to the goal, his left knee stretched awkwardly, and he felt some pain there immediately after scoring the goal.
He tried to continue after initially leaving the pitch, but the pain was too much and he ultimately had to be replaced by Desire Doue in the second half.
Zidane said that Mbappe seems to have hypetextended his knee in the process, and that he was not feeling well.
He said: "Kylian Mbappé’s injury is not looking good. He has hyper-extended his knee. He is not feeling OK. He will have to return to Madrid.”
Jose Mourinho was worried about exactly this before the international break
Mbappe was seen slightly limping on his way to the team bus, through the mixed zone. It has yet to be revealed how serious the injury is, because although Zidane said it does not look good, Mbappe being able to walk semi-properly seems to be a sign of relief.
Real Madrid fans would definitely be worried because Mbappe has scored so many of the team's goals already this season, and it doesn't look like Vinicius Junior is going to be back to full sharpness in time to handle the load that Mbappe will leave behind, if he is to miss an extended amount of time.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho said before the international break that he would've loved to keep all of his players at the club because that would mean there are no injuries suffered by these players while playing elsewhere.
However, his worst fears would be realised if Mbappe is set to miss game time. He is by far the only player in Real Madrid's attack who has actually shown consistency on a regular basis, so his performances and goals will be missed.
It remains to be seen how long Mbappe would be out for, and whether it is a hugely serious injury or something that can be fixed in a few weeks. One thing is certain, though: it could have been a lot worse. Fans would be glad to know it is not an ACL injury, and hopefully, it is something far less serious.
