Real Madrid lost one of the best players in the world to injury in the spring of the 2025/26 season, as Rodrygo Goes tore his ACL in early March. Although Rodrygo was having another difficult season at the White House and has not been himself since Kylian Mbappe's arrival in 2024, there is no doubt that the Brazilian international is a top, top player.
After all, Rodrygo was vital to both Champions League titles in the 2020s, as Real Madrid would not have won without his clutch performances, including that legendary brace against Manchester City, in 2022. And he was a crucial starter in the new system under Carlo Ancelotti in 2024 alongside Vinicius Junior as Real Madrid played two forwards.
Things got difficult in 2024/25 when Rodrygo was no longer as important, and while there were rumors of an exit in 2025, he decided to stay loyal to Madrid, even as top Premier League clubs like Manchester City were prepared to give him a regular starting role on the left side.
Rodrygo seems to be on course
Injury news on Rodrygo has been slow to develop in the months since the ACL tear, but Real Madrid fans finally have a concrete update on this time table to return. According to a report from Diario AS, via the Madrid Zone, the 25 year old forward is expected to return to action for the Merengues in the early part of 2027.
That makes sense, because since Rodrygo Goes tore his ACL in March 2026, he will need to miss around a year of action. It sounds like his recovery is going well, though, because the early part of 2027 might mean that Rodrygo only misses exactly a year or potentially slightly less than that.
Now, Rodrygo is still in the first half of his recovery and it is obviously too soon to say when the Brazilian attacker will be able to get back on the pitch for Real Madrid, but it is fair to say that the Royal Whites can expect him back close to a year from his injury and that his recovery is going well so far.
Even though it seems like a lot of people have not listened to Jude Bellingham and did indeed forget about the R for Real Madrid, Rodrygo is still very important to Real, even if Michael Olise joins the club on the right wing. He did not start every game in 2021/22 yet was still crucial to the Champions League.
